After more than a decade, the legendary Skate franchise has returned with Skate, which launched in Early Access on September 16, 2025. The game brings back the iconic “flick-it” controls in a fresh open-world city called San Vansterdam, with a focus on multiplayer and community-driven skating. It’s free-to-play, offers crossplay and cross-progression, and supports up to 150 players per server, making it one of the most social skateboarding titles to date. Within its first week, skate. saw explosive interest — over 2 million players downloaded it, putting it among EA’s most successful early launches in recent years.

Reception has been a mix of hype and critique. Fans praise the core skating feel, smooth trick system, and freeform exploration, but some are disappointed by the lack of offline play, missing legacy features, and server issues at launch. Steam reviews currently sit at “Mixed,” though the player base continues to grow thanks to regular updates and EA’s promise of free seasonal content and new tricks. With a strong foundation and millions already on board, Skate. has the potential to carve out a lasting space in the live-service gaming world — if it can keep the momentum rolling.
