Mike Carroll is one of the most influential skateboarders of all time. He came up in San Francisco during the late 80s and early 90s and was a regular at Embarcadero Plaza during its peak years. His skating, attitude, and the brands he helped build shaped how a generation viewed street skateboarding. In 1994, Thrasher Magazine named him Skater of the Year.

In 1993, Carroll co-founded Girl Skateboards with Rick Howard, Megan Baltimore, and Spike Jonze. Girl quickly became one of the most important brands in skateboarding. The team released landmark videos including Goldfish, Mouse, Yeah Right, and Pretty Sweet, setting new standards for creativity and video production.

In 1999, Carroll and Rick Howard launched Lakai Footwear. Lakai was part of a strong era of skater-owned brands. The 2007 release of Fully Flared became one of the most influential skate videos ever, featuring Eric Koston, Guy Mariano, Alex Olson, and more. Today, Carroll remains closely involved with Girl Skateboards and Crailtap, continuing to support skateboarding at its core.
